1952 Cunningham

C-3 Vignale Coupe
Class: American Icons
Owner: Tom Cotter
Hometown: Davidson, NC
The car is an as-found barn find. It is one of just 25 built between 1952 and 1954. This is the only one of only three unrestored Cunninghams. Briggs Cunningham had the desire to compete and win the 24 Hours of LeMans with an American car and American driver. But homologation rules required competitors be manufacturers of street cars, and that a minimum of 25 cars to be built so BS Cunningham Company reluctantly became a manufacturer. Chassis for the 20 C-3 Coupes and 5 Convertibles were built in West Palm Beach, Florida, powered by the 331 c.i. Chrysler Hemi engine. The cars were then shipped to Torino, Italy, where body constructor Vignale built bodies of aluminum.
